Announcing the first edition of the Berlin Quantum Hackathon – Putting a Key Technology of the Future into Practice

Berlin, November 19th 2025 – With the Berlin Quantum Challenge 2026, the German capital is launching a new format promoting practice-oriented quantum applications. This coding challenge is funded by the Senate Department for Economic Affairs, Energy and Public Enterprises (SenWEB) and organized by Kipu Quantum in cooperation with BERLIN QUANTUM. The aim of the hackathon is to address specific industrial and social use cases with quantum computing.
The challenge brings together start-ups, hardware providers, public institutions and Berlin-based organisations: over several weeks, six teams will develop quantum solutions for real-world problems. They will have access to various quantum algorithms and quantum hardware via the Kipu Quantum Hub – an open cloud platform already in use by more than 200 organizations.

The results will be presented at a public closing event in March 2026, and the best three solutions will be awarded prizes by a jury. In addition to quantum credits, professional mentoring by Kipu Quantum and networking opportunities within Berlin's innovation ecosystem make participation attractive.
For its part, BERLIN QUANTUM focuses on building a strong, networked ecosystem that promotes excellent basic research, innovation, and technology transfer in equal measure. The challenge contributes to the Senate's goal of making Berlin a leading location for quantum research and industry in the coming years and establishing the city internationally as a center for quantum technologies.

Startschuss für den Berlin Quantum Hackathon 2026 – Schlüsseltechnologie der Zukunft in die Anwendung bringen
Berlin, 19 November 2025 – Mit der Berlin Quantum Challenge 2026 startet die Hauptstadt ein zukunftsweisendes Format zur Förderung anwendungsnaher Quantentechnologien. Die Programmier-Challenge wird von der Senatsverwaltung für Wirtschaft, Energie und Betriebe (SenWEB) im gefördert und von der Kipu Quantum GmbH in Kooperation mit BERLIN QUANTUM organisiert. Ziel des Hackathons ist es, konkrete industrielle und gesellschaftliche Anwendungsfälle mit Quantencomputing zu adressieren.
Die Challenge verbindet Forschung, Start-ups und öffentliche Institutionen: sechs Teams entwickeln über mehrere Wochen hinweg Quantenlösungen für reale Problemstellungen, die von Berliner Unternehmen oder Forschungseinrichtungen eingebracht werden. Dabei erhalten sie Zugriff auf verschiedene Quantenalgorithmen und -computer über den Kipu Quantum Hub – einer offenen Cloud-Plattform, die bereits heute mehr als 200 Organisationen Zugang zu Hardware und Software bietet.

Die Ergebnisse werden im Frühjahr 2026 im Rahmen einer öffentlichen Abschlussveranstaltung vorgestellt und die besten drei Lösungen von einer Jury prämiert. Neben Preisgeldern, macht ein professionelles Mentoring durch Kipu Quantum und eine Vernetzung im Berliner Innovationsökosystem die Teilnahme attraktiv.
Im Mittelpunkt von BERLIN QUANTUM steht der Aufbau eines starken, vernetzten Ökosystems, das exzellente Grundlagenforschung, Innovationsfähigkeit und Technologietransfer gleichermaßen fördert. Die Challenge zahlt auf das Ziel des Senats ein, Berlin in den kommenden Jahren zu einem führenden Standort für Quantenforschung und -wirtschaft zu machen und die Stadt international sichtbar als Zentrum für Quantentechnologien zu etablieren.
