Extend Collaboration to Advance Machine Learning for Enhanced Quantum Computing and Quantum Advantage
GERMANY, SPAIN- Thursday 19 December – Kipu Quantum, the leading provider of application- and hardware-specific quantum computing solutions, has announced the extension of its partnership with the University of Valencia’s Electronic Engineering Department, headed by Prof. José D. Martín-Guerrero. This collaboration focuses on leveraging machine learning to drive advancements in quantum computing and approaching quantum advantage.
Expanding Frontiers in Quantum Machine Learning
The University of Valencia team brings exceptional expertise in advanced data analysis, machine learning and artificial intelligence, developed through years of solving complex real-world problems. Their consultancy role will strengthen Kipu Quantum’s ongoing efforts to harness quantum computing for groundbreaking real-world applications in medicine, satellite observation or astrophysics.
Breakthroughs in Quantum Convolutional Neural Networks (QCNNs)
The collaboration has already yielded significant results in optimizing quantum convolutional neural networks (QCNNs) and counterdiabatic protocols.
A critical pain point in AI/ML, especially in convolutional neural networks (CNNs), is the need for a large number of (expensive) parameters to train models, e.g., in image classification.
In our recent study on image classification of breast cancer, we demonstrated that digital-analog quantum compression improves machine learning models for image classification, enabling better prediction with 1,000x less training data highlighting a clear path towards usefulness within near term.

Expanding Quantum Applications in Industry Through Tabular Data Analysis
Building on this success, the extended collaboration will explore QCNN applications beyond medical imaging, targeting tabular data tasks where early results have been promising. This expansion opens new possibilities in diverse fields such as finance, logistics, accelerating the realization of practical quantum computing solutions.

About University of Valencia
The University of Valencia is more than five-centuries old. Higher education was established in the city of Valencia thanks to King James I who had obtained a Studium Generale institution in 1245. However, it was not until 30 October 1499 that the Juries of Valencia drew up the Constitutions of what was about to become the first University of Valencia: a university authorized by the Papal Bull on 23 January 1501, signed by the Valencian Pope Alexander VI and by the royal privilege of Ferdinand II the Catholic. The research group IDAL (Intelligent Data Analysis Laboratory) belongs to the Department of Electronic Engineering and the School of Engineering of the University of Valencia. It has more than 20 years of experience in the research on data analysis techniques and machine learning methods. IDAL researchers associated with Kipu collaboration are focused on physics-related artificial intelligence, especially quantum machine learning, working on quantum-enhanced machine learning models and on the optimization of different quantum computing aspects based on classical, quantum and hybrid machine learning.
