NYUAD Hosts German Ambassador at the First QInnovision Quantum Industry Day Featuring Kipu Quantum
Abu Dhabi UAE, Karlsruhe GERMANY – October 9th, 2024 – New York University Abu Dhabi (NYUAD) together with Vernewell Group’s QInnovision Consortium successfully hosted the inaugural Quantum Industry Day on October 4, 2024, marking a significant step toward the consolidation of UAE as a key player in the rapidly evolving quantum technology landscape. The event gathered leading quantum innovators and strategic stakeholders from the region and beyond.
The event opened with a high-level meeting between His Excellency Alexander Schönfelder, Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to the UAE; Professor Fabio Piano, Vice Chancellor and Chief Executive of NYU Abu Dhabi; and Dr. Daniel Volz, CEO and co-founder of Kipu Quantum, and Professor Hisham Sati, Director of the Center for Quantum and Topological Systems (CQTS) at NYUAD.
This meeting underscored the strategic role that international partnerships play in advancing quantum technology development and adoption.
NYUAD’s CQTS and QInnovision Consortium launched the Quantum Industry Days series. The inaugural event on October 4, 2024, is part of the Quantum Technology Adoption Program (QTAP), a strategic framework designed by Vernewell Group to promote the integration of quantum technologies across key sectors and establish the UAE as a global leader in the emerging quantum economy.
As the UAE accelerates its journey to becoming a leader in quantum computing, the country is focusing on driving cutting-edge research and advancing practical quantum applications. Vernewell Group’s QTAP plays a crucial role in this, aiming to transform key industries like finance, healthcare, and logistics, making the UAE a global quantum hub.
A key partner in this endeavor is the German quantum computing startup, Kipu Quantum. Recognized as a global leader in quantum computing software, Kipu Quantum is now to collaborating with leading UAE universities and companies to drive near-term industrial applications of quantum computing technologies. By developing hardware- and application-specific quantum solutions, Kipu Quantum is addressing some of the most pressing industry challenges. Additionally, the company’s PlanQK platform offers the first open-access quantum computing platform providing quantum tools and services for industry and research institutions.
German Ambassador His Excellency Alexander Schönfelder emphasized the significance of Kipu Quantum’s role in advancing quantum technology in the UAE, stating:
” Germany is proud to see Kipu Quantum not only driving quantum advancements globally but also playing a pivotal role in the UAE’s growing quantum ecosystem. Their collaboration with leading UAE institutions and companies exemplifies the potential of international partnerships in shaping the future of quantum technologies.”
NYU Abu Dhabi Vice Chancellor Fabio Piano underscored the importance of quantum computing for both academia and industry, commenting:
“Quantum computing represents a transformative frontier in science and technology, with the potential to redefine industries and societies. At NYUAD, we are committed to bridging the gap between research and industry, ensuring that groundbreaking discoveries in quantum computing can be applied to solve real-world challenges. Our partnerships with global leaders like Kipu Quantum will fuel this transformation.”
Dr. Daniel Volz, CEO and co-founder of Kipu Quantum, shared the company’s vision for driving immediate value to industries through quantum technology, stating:
“At Kipu Quantum, we are not just making promises about the future – we are delivering results today. We are the first company globally with a clear ambition to provide through our novel quantum computing solutions imminent added value to industries. Our collaboration with the UAE is a key step in demonstrating the real-world impact of quantum computing across academic and industry sectors.”
The inaugural Quantum Industry Day is just the beginning of a series of events orchestrated and co-organized by Vernewell Group and CQTS aiming to foster collaboration and accelerate the adoption of quantum technologies in the UAE and beyond. As the UAE continues its drive toward becoming a global quantum leader, NYUAD and its partner QInnovison will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of quantum research and industry.
About CQTS at NYUAD
The Center for Quantum and Topological Systems (CQTS) at New York University Abu Dhabi (NYUAD) focuses on advancing robust quantum computation by integrating expertise across disciplines such as Chemistry, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, and Physics. CQTS addresses challenges in areas including topological quantum computing, quantum machine learning, and quantum sensing. CQTS is actively involved in academic and industry engagement through seminars, international conferences, and its flagship event, the annual Quantum Hackathon. The center also established SpinQ, the first quantum educational system in the UAE, to complement research efforts, including work in NV diamond technology.
